Update: Now Live in Canada, UK, Australia & New Zealand

Today, we’re excited to welcome IBS patients from all over the world! This latest update covers our international launch, the addition of localized ingredient rules and in-app experiences, and a brand new partnership with Fodshop, an online grocery store with a delicious selection of indie brands.

Using Spoonful Outside the US

If you’re reading this from Canada, UK, Australia or New Zealand – welcome! We’re so glad you’re with us. Before you get too far, we highly recommend checking out this article on coverage by country and store.

In the US, we currently return a result for 8 of 10 scans, but this number hovers between 5 to 6 of 10 scans outside the US. This is something we’re actively working to improve, and we’ll be sure to keep you updated as we progress. Thank you for understanding.

Local Experts & Country-Specific Ingredient Rules

Did you know that natural flavors in the US may contain garlic or onion, but in Australia it cannot? Or that high fructose corn syrup goes by the name glucose-fructose in Canada? The good news is that you don’t have to.

Thanks to the addition of new local experts, Spoonful now accounts for a number of ingredient labelling rules that differ by country. You may not notice a huge difference in the app, but just know that we’ve got your back, no matter where you live.

Discover Products Only in your Country

Similar to ingredient rules, we have also localized the Discover feed. Scans will be grouped by country, so you can search and favorite products that are available near you.

Welcome FodShop!

Did you know there is an online grocery store that sells exclusively low FODMAP products? The name is FodShop, and its owner Shaynie Ashkenazi ships gut-friendly products (many of which are not in stores) right to your doorstep.

In this release, we feature the FodShop icon on products you won’t find anywhere else. If you want to try the latest Low FODMAP concoctions, we highly recommend checking out the site.

  1. I have scanned a product and got a different product with different ingredients. I have tried to contact the support team but there is no email or contact form. I don’t want to leave a bad review on the App Store until I know you won’t address the issues. But I don’t know how to contact someone in your team that can actually fix errors like that. And a lot of other foods in UK are not found. Are you going to increase your database?
    Thanks

    1. Spoonful says:

Hey Erica – sorry for the issues! If you’d like, you can contact support at support@spoonfulapp.com. Or, if you see something that looks off about a product, you can tap the little “flag” icon at the top right of the screen to send us a message about it. And yes, we’re working on increasing our database of UK products.

Hi, this App does not work in Ireland, it says not compatible with my device (I have a Samsung Galaxy A7 phone). Is there any chance this is an error with my phone or is the App not available in Ireland? I shop in Tesco, M&S… the majority of food products on supermarket shelves come via the UK, so I was excited when I heard about this App.

    1. Spoonful Author says:

Hey Amanda – yes, unfortunately we are not available in Ireland, but we hope to be there one day!
